Welcome to my Wondershare UniConverter review.
Have you ever downloaded videos or music from the Internet only to find they came in a format that your phone or computer couldn’t use? Wondershare UniConverter is a software program that can convert almost any file type, allowing you to play those video and song files on your devices.
Because the Internet is the source of most media we use daily, many people have started relying on YouTube downloaders, audio converters, and Spotify downloaders (just to give some examples) to use files across multiple devices.
Wondershare UniConverter is an all-in-one toolset that allows you to download videos from thousands of streaming websites, convert between different audio and video formats, compress them, edit them, burn DVDs, and much more.
It is preferable to have a single piece of software that can manage all of this rather than different apps for every feature, don’t you think? However, does UniConverter perfectly handle all features?
Let’s begin this Wondershare UniConverter review and closely examine what this tool can accomplish. I’ll cover all UniConverter features and will also give you examples of some of them.
Wondershare UniConverter (previously Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate) is an AI-powered video converter for Mac and Windows users. It can convert almost all videos to different formats in high speed and good quality.
With UniConverter, you can download multiple videos simultaneously and batch convert them to your desired video or audio format.
The application supports converting multiple video formats to other video and audio formats with fast speed and excellent output quality.
UniConverter also lets you edit your videos using the built-in editor. You can trim off unwanted parts, crop the video frame and add watermarks or subtitles to your videos in batch mode.
The software has advanced features, including lossless conversion, fast speed, and high-quality output. It also offers some additional features such as an AI-powered vocal remover to remove vocals from songs, advanced video editing with trimming and cropping options as well as a background remover.
When it comes to downloading, editing, and file conversion, UniConverter pretty much has you covered.
The team at Wondershare is constantly improving its software, and the latest UniConverter release now includes AI-driven tools too.
The several features UniConverter provides can be found on the app’s main screen or in the Tools tab.
Simply choose the one you wish to use, then get started.

Next, in my Wondershare UniConverter review, I’ll go through all the above features to give you an idea of what this software can achieve.
The first feature we’ll be looking at is the Converter.
Converting videos with UniConverter is a breeze. After you import the video or audio file you wish to convert, you’ll be prompted with a screen similar to the above image.
You can choose from various formats, and the software even helps you by organizing them by tabs such as video, audio, device, editing, web video, and custom.
Wondershare UniConverter video formats include:
- MP4, MOV, MKV, M4V, AVI, HEVC MP4, HEVC MKV, MWV, DivX, MXF, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DV, VOB, 3GP, 3G2, OGV, WebM, ASF, FLV, F4V, SWF, TS, TRP, XVID, M2TS.
Each one of these formats can be further customized. As you can see from the image above, some presets are already available for the selected MP4 format: same as source, MP4 (Alpha), 4K Video, and so on.
By selecting the button on each customizable presets, you can modify it to your needs.
You can change the encoder, frame rate, resolution, and bit rate and modify the audio settings for the converted video.
And if you’re finding yourself making these changes to most videos, you may consider saving it as a new preset. You can then access it in the Custom tab.
You may wonder what the Smart Fit option on the videos’ resolution and bit rate is.
Smart Fit intelligently sees the settings of the input video and maintains the original video quality. In other words, the converter will automatically adjust to the converting settings. Think of it as a shortcut if you don’t know what you’re doing with the settings.
Wondershare UniConverter audio formats include:
- MP3, M4A, WAV, M4R, AIFF, APE, FLAC, AC3, AAC, OGG, CAF, AMR, MP2.
Each audio format comes with a few presets that you may select and modify, just like the video formats.
Another great option in the software Converter feature is the ability to choose your conversion based on the device. You can choose from the following devices:
- Apple, Samsung, Huawei, XIAOMI, HTC, Google, Sony, TV, Games, Android Generic.
For each device, you have different options. For example, Apple includes many settings for the iPhone 13 (mini, Pro, Pro Max), iPhone 12, iPad Air, and much more. The best part is that you can also customize these presets, save them as new ones, and use them when you need them.
If you’re a video editor and need to convert a video file to a format compatible with your video editing software, UniConverter provides different settings for that in the Editing tab:
- iMovie, Final Cut Pro 7, Final Cut Pro X, iDVD, ProRes (HQ, LT, Proxy, 4444), Avid DNxHD.
You might have noticed that these settings are for Mac users like me. I believe that if you download the Windows version, you’ll have a different set of options.
Finally, UniConverter includes settings suited explicitly to social media channels and other online video platforms in the Web Video tab:
- YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram.
For this particular example, I’ll use a 111.8 MB MOV video file in Full HD and convert it to MP4 at 1280×720 resolution.
After selecting the video I wanted to convert, I get the option of adding subtitles, removing the audio or adding a new audio file, editing the file metadata that will be embedded in the conversion, and adjusting the settings for the conversion.
A great feature of UniConverter is that the software displays the file’s size before converting it. In this case, it estimates the converted file will be 108.6 MB. Let’s see if that’s true.
UniConverter took 1’32’’ for this conversion. As you can see, the file size is smaller than anticipated, which is excellent.
Wondershare UniConverter includes a High-Speed Conversion option (not available on the trial version). According to Wondershare, this option can boost the conversion process up to 60%.
High-Speed Conversion is a technology that allows you to convert video files from one format to another at high speeds without sacrificing quality. UniConverter must support the following formats in order for you to enable and use High-Speed Conversion:
- Input formats: H.264 codec format of MKV, AVI, MPG, TS, TRP, MP4, M4V, M2TS, MTS, MOV, and FLV.
- Output formats: MP4, AVI, MKV, M4V, and MOV.
To determine the difference in conversion speed, I will use the High-Speed Conversion option for the same conversion in the next example.
This time, with High-Speed Conversion enabled, UniConverter took 1’27’’ to finish the conversion with the same settings. That’s only a 5-second difference, which is hardly significant.
I can’t say the same for the rest of the formats, as there are many to try. However, if time isn’t a problem for you, sticking with the trial version will give you enough conversion speed.
Wondershare UniConverter has got you covered when it comes to customization and editing capabilities while converting video files.
UniConverter’s built-in video editor allows you to trim, rotate, crop, add effects, change speed, edit the audio, and more. For a more comprehensive review of UniConverter’s video editor, jump straight to the video editor section.
The next feature on this Wondershare UniConverter review is the video compressor.
Just like the Converter feature, the video compressor feature allows you to compress video files and customize them to your liking. The feature contains a slider that displays the recommended compression range.
The best part is that it includes a Preview button that lets you check the quality of the output file by compressing the first 20 seconds. This way, you can verify if your compression settings are optimal.
Downloading video playlists from a variety of channels, including YouTube, Lynda, Vimeo, Dailymotion, and Udemy, amongst others, is really simple and won’t give you any problems at all.
With just a few simple clicks, Wondershare UniConverter makes it possible for users to download online files, play them offline, and use them for various other applications.
To download videos with Wondershare UniConverter, you only need to copy the video URL and click the purple link button in the image above. The software will automatically analyze the file and give some options for you to select.
What’s more, you can instruct UniConverter to download the video or audio file and then convert it to your desired format.
If downloading YouTube videos is all you need, check out my YouTube to MP4 downloaders.
With UniConverter’s built-in video editor, you can:
- Trim several video segments and merge them into one.
- Rotate, crop, and change the aspect ratio to 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, and more. This makes converting files for specific social media channels and devices easier.
- Add several video effects such as brightness, contrast, saturation, and more.
- Choose from dozens of color filters.
- Change the speed duration from 0.25x up to 2x.
- Add a custom watermark with an image or text. You can also select its transparency.
- Add subtitles and edit them, including fonts, color, background, transparency, and position.
- Edit the audio, where you can adjust the volume and the stereo image, enhance vocal quality, remove background noise, add a fade-in and a fade-out, and master the audio sync.
A remarkable feature we don’t usually see in converter software tools is the ability to capture your screen.
Because UniConverter is much more than a converter, it includes a screen recorder, a webcam recorder, and an audio recorder. You can then use these recordings, edit them with the built-in video editor, and convert them to multiple formats.
In this sense, Wondershare UniConverter is truly a full-featured video toolset that covers every angle.
UniConverter prompts you to install a virtual sound card when starting a screen recording.
After following the instructions, you’ll be able to start your screen recording.
Using the movable handles, you can choose which area of the screen you wish to capture. You can also pause the screen recording and resume it when you’re ready to continue.
And if you’re creating video tutorials, the software offers many tools to draw squares, circles, lines, arrows, and write text in real-time. Moreover, you can include your webcam and audio recorder while recording your screen. This is great for educational types of videos.
While many of us no longer use DVDs (or CDs), some might still find this feature useful.
With the Wondershare UniConverter DVD Burner feature, you can burn single-layer DVDs (DVD-5 up to 4.7 GB) and double-layer DVDs (DVD-9 up to 8.5 GB).
You have the option to add multiple video files, load a DVD folder, ISO files, or IFO files. Further customizations include aspect ratio, TV standard (NTSC or PAL), quality, and menu.
UniConverter also provides dozens of DVD menus with the option of adding background music.
The Merger feature in UniConverter is truly powerful and might save you a lot of time, especially if you have many video clips you wish to edit and merge into one.
You can choose the video files you wish to merge, trim the desired segments from each one, and then combine all of those cuts into a single file. Naturally, you can select the video format and modify it to suit your needs.
UniConverter offers a video player capable of handling videos up to 8K.
This video player lets you choose the speed of the video, mute the audio, watch it full screen, take snapshots or screenshots of the current frame and even create a playlist.
When you first open the UniConverter’s video player, it will ask you if you want to make this player the default video player in your system. That’s up to you.
If you want to make your blog posts stand out, using GIFs is an excellent choice. UniConverter’s GIF Maker allows you to create GIFs from videos and photos (up to 20 photos at a time).
I used the screen recorder function of UniConverter to capture my screen while simultaneously writing the text using the program’s built-in tools. But the generated GIF was 5.7 MB in size, whereas the video was only 74 KB.
For a 5-second GIF file, 5.7 MB is an enormous size. Sadly, the Converter feature of UniConverter does not allow GIFs. And while the Compressor feature recognizes GIFs, it doesn’t export to GIF format.
Therefore, I used Ezgif.com (a free online GIF maker that I prefer to use for GIFs) to resize the GIF file and publish it to this UniConverter review you’re reading. You can create and optimize your GIFs with Ezgif.com to avoid having enormous file sizes for such little GIFs.
With UniConverter’s Intro & Outro feature, you may batch trim several videos and batch add beginning and ending videos to numerous videos.
File metadata is supplementary data about a file that is stored with it and makes it easier to use and locate. As a result, it is information about the document or photo rather than the actual file itself, such as the file name, thumbnail image, version number, or creation date.
Wondershare UniConverter goes a bit further by letting you add comments, descriptions, taglines, actors, directors, content ratings, and more. You can also select the type of file, such as movies, TV shows, home videos, music videos, and music, and select the language.
UniConverter not only lets you convert and compress video and audio files but also images.
UniConverter converts images to multiple formats such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, JP2, BMP, PDF, WEBP, and HEIC. The file’s overall size can be altered by further altering the output quality.
If you want to convert your music CDs into digital files, you may do so with UniConverter.
The CD Converter feature allows you to convert your CDs to WAV, MP3, or M4A. Both MP3 and M4A can be further customized by modifying the channels, sample rate, and bitrate.
Most people no longer listen to music on CDs due to the rise of music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and many more. Unless you’re an audiophile purist who won’t listen to streaming music or you have a car with a CD player. The CD, however, is becoming an increasingly uncommon item as most laptops no longer have CD drives.
Nonetheless, UniConverter has got you covered. With UniConverter’s CD Burner, you can drag and drop your audio files and, with the click of a button, start burning your CD so you can listen to your CD players.
Videos that support virtual reality have become more necessary as VR technology and headgear have grown in popularity. Wondershare UniConverter performs admirably as one of the best VR video converters, enabling the conversion of videos into VR formats for playback on particular VR headsets.
All you have to do to prepare your newly generated VR video for your VR headset is click the Convert button after choosing the Video Mode and the VR device you want to convert to.
Transferring files to a mobile device is a crucial feature that most of us require because most people nowadays use their smartphones for media playback and storage.
As always, UniConverter got you covered. With UniConverter’s Transfer feature, you can connect your mobile device with a USB cable to your desktop computer and start transferring all the files you want.
UniConverter supports the following mobile devices:
- iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch with iOS 5 or later, and Android 2.2 or later.
Wondershare has recently added AI-driven audio and video editing features in an effort to keep up with technological advancements.
If you need to improve the audio quality of your videos or audio files by removing background noise, now you can. UniConverter’s Noise Remover allows you to remove any background noise such as rain, wind, traffic, or plain white noise.
With the click of a button, UniConverter automatically removes any unwanted background noise. The only drawback is that you can’t adjust any settings. However, the output quality is amazing.
Here’s an example of a recording with lots of background noise:
And here’s the same audio file after applying UniConverter’s Noise Remover:
As you can hear, the difference is striking.
You can also apply the Noise Remover to video files. The software supports multiple audio and video files and batch processing to remove background noise.
Windershare claims UniConverter’s Vocal Remover is the best way to remove vocals from any song.
After trying this feature, I see no difference between other vocal remover tools. It’s pretty impossible to remove vocals from a song without ruining the other instruments. That’s because these tools remove certain frequencies from the song, ending up removing the same frequencies from the instruments.
There are some advanced techniques sound engineers employ on music production software to get the same effect, although not perfect.
Vocal Remover is not a flawless feature, and if you’re a musician like me, you may be disappointed with this tool. However, I must say that it indeed depends on the type of vocals your song has. The more distinctive they are (the less they “merge” with the instrumental part of the song), the fewer artifacts you’ll hear after applying the Vocal Remover.
Although UniConverter aims to serve all kinds of content creators, not all of its features will be useful to everyone.
Adding subtitles to video files couldn’t be easier.
With the help of the Subtitle Editor in UniConverter, anyone may make their own subtitles, permanently add them to videos and movies, and automatically extract subtitles from videos. And you can preview the result in real-time in the timeline.
UniConverter’s AI subtitle feature can auto-generate subtitles for over 100 languages, making this a very sought-after feature in many countries.
You can import SRT, AAs, and SSA files and merge them with the video, converting them to a new format. And if you want to customize the subtitles’ font, size, and color, you can too.
Videos with unneeded sections are frequently recorded for YouTube channels, online courses, and other purposes. With UniConverter Smart Trimmer, you can automatically pick and delete video scenes with speech faults, low noises, a noisy background, etc.
This AI-supported video trimming tool can cut content with low voice volume and silence, as well as video portraits.
With the specific portrait feature, you can add your own image and the software will analyze the character’s facial features through its algorithms. As an alternative, you may select the portion of the video through the Screenshot button (just as in the image above). You can then choose whether to remove or keep the selections.
The ability to automatically add watermarks to videos and remove them from videos using AI algorithms is another fantastic option for video creators.
You can remove any unwanted content from videos, including text, images, logos, people, and objects. When you select an object to be removed from the video, make sure you also select the portion of the video where it appears. If you fail to do this, the software will remove anything on the same area in other shots where the object is not present. Fortunately, UniConverter allows you to select multiple areas, each one with its own length.
Not only can you remove objects from videos with AI, but you can also add your own watermarks to your videos. Watermarks can be images or text. Further customization is included, such as fonts, colors, transparency, and dynamic watermark.
With UniConverter’s Auto Crop tool, you can instantly and automatically resize/crop your video for use on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other well-liked social media platforms.
The Auto Crop feature makes it simple to share the same video on any social media network, regardless of its size and quality. It automatically identifies, seizes, and records the motion keyframe using artificial intelligence.
You can also toggle the Adjust Frame to manually adjust motion keyframes frame by frame for a better output.
UniConverter Auto Crop feature supports aspect ratios for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and custom ones. Moreover, you can change the speed by which the auto crop moves from default to slower to faster.
After the Noise Remover, this is one of my favorite UniConverter AI features.
If you don’t want to rely on Photoshop to remove backgrounds, UniConverter does the job well, although it’s not flawless. This AI background remover has no settings to adjust, meaning your result is at the click of a button.
However, not all images will work. I tried to remove the background for the following image, and the software returned an error.
I believe the Background Remover tool works best for blurry backgrounds, as in the following image.
The above image has a more blurry background. And even though some blurry, dark parts might have been confused with the man’s hair, the software did a pretty good job removing the background. However, you can still see a bit of the chair next to his neck. Unfortunately, UniConverter doesn’t let you refine the image (something you could do with Photoshop).
Nevertheless, you can further edit the image and add background images or colors.
So if you’re going to remove backgrounds with this tool, make sure your image has a nice blurry and homogeneous background for it to work properly.
UniConverter’s AI Portrait functions the same as the Background Remover, but this time, it’s for videos.
As soon as you open the AI Portrait feature, you’re prompted with the following message:
- “To get the best results of AI Portrait, please make sure the background of your video is bright and simple.”
It makes sense.
The AI will work better if you have a white background with fewer objects.
For this example, I chose a video with a blurry background.
The software lets you preview the result in real-time. You just need to toggle the Preview button below the image.
Although the background was blurry, it wasn’t white, and that made the AI soften the man’s boundaries. But overall, it’s a decent result. You can then choose colors or images to replace the background or nothing at all.
For the following example, I chose a video shot in a studio with no background objects.
With this background, I thought the result would look better. And here it is:
Although the background was much more bright and simple, the AI still softened the man’s boundaries. As if it wasn’t bad enough, you can still see some white under his arms. Due to the man’s movement, the white areas will change throughout the video.
Unfortunately, the AI Portrait feature doesn’t let you refine how much of the background it will remove. You have to rely solely on the AI tool for that. I wonder if Wondershare could include an AI-refinement slider (or something similar) in future releases…?
Video stabilization is a neat feature that Wondershare UniConverter offers. It works best if the video is cropped, as you won’t see any edge artifacts generated by the software.
On the other hand, if your Crop Scale is at zero, you’ll notice the edge processing which can be none, reflect, tile, and expand.
This feature works well for what is intended. Just be aware that you’ll need to crop your video to have a good result. The more you crop it, the less you’ll notice the jitter.
We’ve now reached the pricing section for my Wondershare UniConverter review.

Wondershare UniConverter offers a free trial with many limitations. The restrictions are heavy, even though there is no time limit. However, it is the best way to test drive the software and see if it’s a good fit for your needs.
The only free features (completely free) that come with UniConverter’s Free Trial are the Noise Remover and the Vocal Remover. So if you need to convert files on a daily basis, you need to invest in a paid plan.
The main limitations of the free trial are as follows:
- Conversions are capped at ⅓ length.
- No batch conversion and download.
- The Merge feature is not available.
- You can download only one file from YouTube or other streaming websites.
- The Fre Trial doesn’t download playlists from YouTube.
- Video and audio compression with watermark.
- You only get ⅓ output for video edits, trims, subtitles, and more.
- Screen recording is limited to one minute.
- You can’t burn CDs or DVDs.
- You can only transfer five files to your mobile device.
- The AI features are limited to one or five files, depending on the feature (except for the Noise Remover and the Vocal Remover).
You can check all the differences between the paid plans and the Free Trial in this article.
Get started with UniConverter’s Free Trial.
For a lightweight piece of software, UniConverter really over-delivers in terms of features.
Everything you could possibly need to download, convert, compress, and edit video files is included in this tool. Besides, it has a neat user interface, making it easy to navigate through the many different professional features it offers.
Another selling point for UniConverter is that its features integrate seamlessly with each other. This means that if you download a Vimeo video, you can send it to the Converter feature and trim and crop it all in one place. You can access those basic video features inside the same tool.
I must say that this is one of my favourite video converter tools.
In my honest opinion, UniConverter is a video and audio converter and compressor. Period.
When a piece of software has too many features, some of them are likely to be inferior to others. While the addition of AI features is a great upgrade to the possibilities of the software, some of them end up being unsatisfactory, in my own experience.
The Vocal Remover and the AI Portrait are two features that require improvement, as I mentioned when I reviewed them.
Also, the inability to export compressed GIF files (when UniConverter offers a GIF Maker) is a big no for anyone wanting to create GIF files to publish on their blogs. If you understand anything about page load speed and SEO metrics, you’ll want smaller-sized GIFs on your blog.
The price difference between Windows and Mac users perplexes me yet again. Does UniConverter need to be more expensive for Mac users just because Macs are more expensive than Windows PCs? Or is the coding more expensive? If you know the answer, please let me know in the comments.
In spite of all these alleged drawbacks, UniConverter is unquestionably a program worth purchasing if all you need to do is download, convert, compress, edit, trim, merge, record your screen and create video tutorials, add subtitles and watermarks, burn CDs and DVDs, and utilize a ton of other useful features.
By now, you should already know if this software is the best for your conversion needs. If not, I suggest you visit their website and try their Free Trial.
I think UniConverter is one of the best third-party converters I’ve used and is definitely worth checking out. The simplicity of its layout is a huge plus for me, as it makes processing files a breeze.
The file management system deserves a big nod as well. The sheer volume of conversions it allows in one batch is incredible, especially since it is lightning fast and straightforward to use.
After considering everything, I cannot help but recommend Wondershare UniConverter to anyone who needs a versatile and easy-to-use converter that integrates well with their current digital workflows.
